TWO MORE FAMILIES HAVE DROWNED IN THE RIVER FLEEING FROM THE PERSECUTION OF THE AKP REGIME

Another disaster happened on the Meriç (Evros) river between Turkey and Greece. Two more families fleeing from the AKP’s persecution in Turkey have drowned in the river. Eight people, three of whom are children have died in the river. The rubber boat carrying the families capsized in the Meriç river. The bodies of the two drowned brothers, estimated to be aged around 11 and 3, and their mother were discovered. 39-year-old English language teacher Uğur Abdürrezzak and his wife 37-year-old Turkish teacher Ayşe Abdürrezzak were among the 30,000 teachers dismissed from their jobs in July 2016 with government decrees under the rule of emergency. Six months after being dismissed Uğur Abdürrezzak was arrested and held in Kandıra prison for 11 months. He was released in January pending trial in the case the prosecutor demands 22 years imprisonment for him. Thus, Uğur Abdürrezzak decided to flee the country with his wife and children. It is reported that that Doğan Family was accompanying the Abdürrezzak Family on the rubber boat as they were crossing the Meriç river and the members of the family, Fahreddin Doğan, his wife Aslı Doğan and the couple’s 2,5-year-old son İbrahim Selim Doğan are still missing. The Doğan family was also fleeing from the unlawful judiciary in Turkey. There was also a single male named Fatih Yaşar on the boat.

Last November the Maden family fleeing from the AKP regime’s persecution since July 15 controlled coup drowned in the sea trying to reach Greek islands, all five members of the family died.
