AN MP’S STATUS OF PARLIAMENTARIAN WOULD BE STRIPPED BECAUSE OF INSULTING ERDOĞAN

From now on MPs who insult Turkey’s President will be stripped off from their status of a parliamentarian. The pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP)’s MP Ahmet Yıldırım has been sentenced to 1 year and two months in prison for insulting Erdoğan by calling him ‘the would-be padishah in the Palace’. The court also barred Yıldırım from politics and ruled to deprive him of some rights. If the memorandum of the Prime Ministry about Yıldırım is read at the Turkish Parliament general assembly an opposition MP’s status of parliamentarian would be stripped for the first time because of “insulting the Turkish President”.
