LIFE SENTENCE TO SIX JOURNALISTS IS CRITICISED

Journalists being sentenced to aggravated life sentences in Turkey is covered in the world media. Journalists being convicted over ‘subliminal messages’ in their columns is defined as unacceptable, and Fevzi Yazıcı, the former layout editor of the shuttered newspaper Zaman being sentenced to a life sentence because of it, is criticised. Romanian journalist Radu Ghelmez wrote an article in his blog criticising the absurdity of the ruling and said: “How come a layout editor attempts to abolish the constitutional order? How come he helps a terrorist organisation he is not a member of?’’. The Romanian journalist also called out the international rights watchdogs to react the decision.
