PAMUK: THE SENTENCES ARE CRUEL, UNJUST AND UNFAIR

Nobel Prize winner author Orhan Pamuk reacted to aggravated life sentence for six journalists in Turkey. Pamuk spoke to T24 and said “The sentences given to Ahmet Altan, Mehmet Altan and Nazlı Ilıcak are cruel, unjust and unfair.”

Pamuk said “What links us to each other should not be the fear of imprisonment or endless threats but peace and freedom of expression.” Pamuk added that:

“It is not only these precious authors who are treated unjustly. It is the idea of justice and trust as well as the belief that we are governed with democracy and by laws that is damaged and undermined with these outrageous decisions. The government must give up the politics of punishing and imprisoning people. This decision needs to be reconsidered.”
