PEOPLE REPORTEDLY BEING TORTURED UNDER CUSTODY BY TURKISH POLICE AT MERSIN PROVINCIAL SECURITY DIRECTORATE

A total of 80 people, including female high school and university students, who were detained, have been severely tortured under police custody at the Mersin Provincial Security Directorate, according to a social media account specialised on tracing and monitoring the torture cases in Turkey following the controversial coup attempt on July 15, 2016. It was reported that there is also a mother with her two-month-old baby among the detainees. It is reported that the women are detained because of selling food to raise money to help families victimised by the AKP regime. It is claimed that innocent women are detained and tortured by the order of Mersin City’s Governor Ali İhsan Su, Attorney Mustafa Ercan and Police Chief Mehmet Şahne.
