EP TAKES ACTIONS AGAINST POLAND WHO REFUSES TO TAKE ANY MUSLIM ASYLUM SEEKERS

The European Parliament voted in favour of taking action against Poland, which declared it would not take any Muslim asylum seekers, due to a serious breach of the rule of law. The move could result in the suspension of its voting rights in the EU.  Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans said, “We decided to trigger Article 7 because Poland did not leave us any choice.” The European Parliament on Thursday voted 422 in favour to 147 against, with 48 abstentions, on a nonbinding resolution to support the Commission’s action against Poland. In order to trigger Article 7, all the EU countries need to vote in favour of the move except Poland itself. However, it is expected that Poland’s close ally Hungary will block the move.
