THE WORLD MEDIA COVERS TWO GREEK SOLDIERS DETAINED BY TURKEY

Two Greek soldiers who strayed across the border and detained by Turkey is covered in the world media. British newspapers wrote that there is growing suspicion that this case is related to the fate of eight Turkish servicemen who fled to Greece requesting political asylum after the failed 2016 military coup in Turkey.
The Times’s news article written by its Athens correspondent Anthee Carassava states that the fate of the soldiers is the centre of national attention in Greece and scores of local people held vigils at the weekend to pray for the men.

The Guardian emphasised that the move risks inflaming already strained ties between Greece and Turkey. “I am deeply concerned at what we are seeing,” Greece’s former foreign minister Dora Bakoyannis told the Guardian. “The mood in Turkey has shifted. Erdoğan is not the man he was ten years ago. He is totally unpredictable.”

Greece’s foreign minister, Nikos Kotzias said Turkey ought to apply the provisions of international law and not turn a routine procedure into a major legal and political problem.
