ANTI MIGRANTS PARTY’S MPS VISIT TO DAMASCUS VISIT SPARKS OUTGRAGE

A group of MPs from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) which is known with its extremist and anti-Islam views visiting Syria and meeting with officials close to President Bashar al-Assad in an effort to send back refugees sparks outrage.

Steffen Seibert, German government spokesman said “the Syrian regime proves everyday how inhumane its attitudes are.” Seibert mentioned the civilians being under attack in Idlib, Aleppo and eastern Ghouta and added that: “These sufferings are ordered or tolerated by Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. Whoever pays court to this regime disqualifies themselves”.  Several German MPs have expressed outrage over the parliamentarians‘ trip to Syria.  Justice Minister Heiko Maas said that part of the AfD may warrant surveillance by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency. And added that “At least some groups within the AfD appear to have set themselves up to become a new political home for neo-Nazis.”
