WSJ: TURKEY’S SOFT POWER IN THE ARAB WORLD MELTS AWAY

American newspaper the Wall Street Journal wrote that Turkey continues to „show strength,“ with a military operation in Afrin while its soft power melts away in the Arab world. According to BBC Türkçe’s news, the Wall Street Journal’s article emphasises two big events in the Turkish news in recent days. Turkey’s army showed prowess in Syria, advancing on the Kurdish enclave of Afrin. And the Saudi-owned, pan-Arab broadcaster MBC took Turkish TV dramas, off air.

The analysis written by Yaroslav Trofimov claims that these two seemingly irrelevant developments are not independent of the transformation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his 15-year rule.

It is claimed that Turkey, once the awe-inspiring country that combines “Islam, democracy and prosperity” is now in a military conflict and a hard fight with neighbours and allies.
