ECHR FINED TURKEY FOR MALTREATMENT IN PRISON

The ECHR fines Turkey for not providing an ill prisoner with adequate food, maltreatment and torture. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ordered Turkey to pay 5,000 euros as non-pecuniary damage to a diabetic prisoner Ebedin Abi who complained of not receiving meals compatible with his diet during his detention at Kırıkkale Type F prison. The ECHR statement concluded that Article 3 of the Human Rights Convention wass breached. Turkey is going to pay 5,000 euros to the applicant “in respect of non-pecuniary damage” and 1,150 euros “in respect of costs and expenses.”
