ANOTHER DIPLOMATIC CRISIS BETWEEN THE NETHERLANDS AND TURKEY OVER ALLEGED DUTCH SPY

Another diplomatic crisis between the Netherlands and Turkey happened. It is reported that Turkey has launched an investigation into a Dutch diplomat A.Z. working at the Dutch embassy in Istanbul believed to have worked in Turkey as a spy. The Dutchman has left Turkey after the investigation started. An official from Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke to RTL Nieuws and confirmed A.Z. had left Turkey. Pro-AKP news outlets claimed that the Dutchman intended “to distribute false information” about the relationship between Turkey and ISIS, Turkey’s military operation Olive Branch and Syria as well as collecting intel. Pro-Akp news channel TRT Haber claimed that the Dutchman got caught red-handed. The news claims that secret activities of the spy are decoded, and an investigation is launched. The Dutch national accused of being a “spy” has left Turkey “for his own safety,” the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated. The relationship between the Netherlands and Turkey has been in a state of diplomatic crisis since March of last year. Dutch authorities barred Family Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya from entering the Turkish Consulate residence in Rotterdam. Tensions increased in February when the Dutch parliament recognised the Armenian genocide.
