KOSOVAR PM SACKS SECURITY CHIEF AND INTERIOR MINISTER OVER ABDUCTION OF 6 TURKISH NATIONALS

The scandal of unlawful detention and extradition of Turkish nationals in Kosovo via Turkish intelligence sparked outrage. Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj dismissed the interior minister and the secret service chief after the arrest and extradition to Turkey of six Turkish nationals said Reuters. Prime Minister Haradinaj and President Hashim Thaçi commented on the kidnapping of 6 Turkish nationals in Kosovo with joint operation of Turkish MIT and Kosovar intelligence organisation. PM Haradinaj said, “The entire operation – revoking their residence permits, detention, emergency deportation and the secret extradition to Turkey of the six Turkish citizens from Kosovo territory – was conducted without my knowledge and permission,” President Hashim Thaçi said in his written statement: “Today we are disappointed because our relevant institutions, for reasons that remain to be clarified to the end, have failed to defend these principles related to the human rights of foreign citizens who live and work in our country.” Thaçi added that “Kosovo is a democratic state built in accordance with the highest democratic standards, which above all respect the individual rights of every person regardless of ethnicity, belief or political or ideological convictions.”
