Trump working on extraditing Gülen, Turkey’s foreign minister says

US President Donald Trump told his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that Washington was working on extraditing a US-based Muslim cleric accused of orchestrating a failed Turkish coup in 2016, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Sunday, according to Reuters.

“In Argentina, Trump told Erdoğan they were working on extraditing Gülen and other people,” Çavuşoğlu said at conference in Doha, referring to the G20 summit in Argentina from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1.

In the summit Erdoğan and Trump had held a 50-minute long meeting.

Turkey had dismissed some 140,000 public servants based on their alleged links to Gülen who inspired a faith-based movement in Turkey and other countries.

In addition to that Turkey had investigated more than 600,000 people on terrorism charges since the failed coup attempt.

Since then, Ankara has put the extradition of Gülen and his followers to priority list in its foreign policy.
