Turkey detains ISIL suspects including 2 wanted by France

Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency says police have detained 12 suspected Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants, including two women who are wanted in France, The Associated Press reported.

Anadolu reported on Wednesday that the suspects were detained during police raids in the northwestern province of Bursa earlier this week. The group includes French citizens of Syrian or Algerian descent who settled in Bursa after allegedly carrying out unspecified “acts” on behalf of ISIL in Syria, the news agency said.

Five of the suspects will be deported, according to Anadolu. Its report didn’t name the women sought by France.

Turkish police detained over 200 suspected ISIL group followers in the final days of December. ISIL claimed responsibility for a gunman’s Jan.1, 2017 attack at an Istanbul nightclub that killed 39 people, most of them foreigners.
